Fenian Songster

Following the American Civil War, Irish Nationalists in the “Fenian Brotherhood” began planning to fight for Irish independence through an invasion of Canada.  After crossing from Buffalo, New York, in 1866, the Fenians had some initial success at the Battle of Ridgeway, Ontario, but were ultimately unable to follow through with their plans.

Several booklets called “songsters” were printed back in 1866 in order to be sung at meetings of the Fenian Brotherhood.  The first 12 tracks of this CD come from these books of lyrics.  The CDwas created for the 150th Anniversary of the Fenian Invasion, in 2016.
