  • June 10, 2021 Rush the Growler is reuniting to help support the renovation of the Niagara Post Theater. This 1931 building was built for the soldiers and sailors who were at "New Fort Niagara," in what is now the state park surrounding Old Fort Niagara.     The Great Guinness Toast at the Buffalo Irish Center This event is always a great time, and raises money for the Buffalo Irish Center. Rush the Growler will go on at 6:30 in the Claddagh Room, but there will be loads of great bands playing all night. Come early-- stay late!
  • Saturday, March 10, 2018
    Gene McCarthy's / Old First Ward Brewing Co. at 73 Hamburg St., Buffalo, NY, 9:00 PM - 12:00. This will be Rush The Growler's first performance at Gene McCarthy's but we've enjoyed the great beer and food there before as customers. We can't think of a better way to kick off the week leading up to St. Patrick's Day-- playing in the Old First Ward in the shadows of the grain elevators, in this homey Irish pub. Please join us!

    Springville Fiddle Fest in beautiful downtown Springville, NY. The Festival features 12 bands, clogging, jam sessions, music lessons, historic demonstrators, an antique car cruise-in, food trucks, and more! Continuous music all day beginning at 11:00 AM at three venues. Fiddler’s Green Park, Heritage Park and Concord Mercantile General Store. We will be at the Trading Post, from 12:00 to 2:00

    West Seneca Historical Society Civil War presentation on songs "By, For, and About the 154th New York Vol. Infantry." Our presentation follows the regular meeting of the West Seneca Historical Society, which starts at 7:00, at the West Seneca Senior Center, 4620 Seneca St, Buffalo, New York 14224. The meeting and presentation are open to any interested public. Members are free; Non-members are requested to make a $5 dontation.
  • Wednesday, June 21, 2017
    Buffalo Historical Museum 1 Museum Ct., Buffalo, NY. We will be performing Erie Canal songs in the State Court-- the main foyer before the "Erie Canal Debate." The debate concerns whether the Village of Black Rock or the Village of Buffalo would be selected as the western terminus of the Erie Canal in 1816, and will feature North District Councilman Joe Golombek as "Peter B. Porter"; Fillmore District Councilman David Franczyk as "Samuel Wilkeson"; Comptroller Mark Schroeder as "DeWitt Clinton". Museum admission applies. (Museum members are free.) We will be playing from 5:30 to 6:00 PM, and the debate is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.

    Buffalo Niagara Scottish Festival at the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst. 11:00 AM - Noon and 4:30 - 5:00 PM.
  • We're proud to be able to perform two sets at this year's Scottish Festival. The first set will be on the Main Stage on Sunday, from 11:00 - noon. We'll be sure to feature our favorite Scottish songs. Our second set will be in the Celtic Arts Pavillion, from 4:30 - 5:00 PM, where we will be featuring songs for and about Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Battle of Culloden.
  • Saturday, Sept. 16 2017
    Niagara Celtic Heritage Festival at Krull Park, 6108 Lake Rd. Olcott, NY 14126. We are going to be playing a set on the Celtic Arts Stage on Saturday morning, from 10:30 AM to Noon. We also have a special presentation about Songs of the 1798 Rebellion for the Celtic College, on Saturday at 4:00 PM.

    Nickel City Frets at 83 Main Street Akron, NY, starting at 7:00 PM. This will be Rush The Growler's first appearance at Nickel City Frets "Under the Crush". Come check out western New York's most unique listening venue. We'll be pulling out a lot of our "non-Celtic" stuff.

    Panel Discussion on the Fenian Invasion at The Buffalo History Museum This event is sponsored by the Black Rock Historical Society in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the Fenian Invasion of Canada, which started here in Buffalo. We are pleased to be providing Fenian music in the State Court from 5:30 to 6:00, before this event begins. The discussion begins at 6:00. Museum admission is required. BECHS members are admitted free.

    Fenian Hoooley- In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Fenian Raid, a bike ride will begin at the Buffalo Irish Center at 6:00 pm. Bike riders will travel through the Buffalo's First Ward to the Irish Famine Memorial, and return. Rush the Growler will be hosting the post-ride hooley at the Irish Center, where we will feature Fenian songs from the period and both Irish and American songs the were popular in the Civil War era.

    Niagara Celtic Festival at Krull Park, Olcott Beach, NY. We'll be on at 5:30 PM, at the Celtic Arts Stage, but there's lots of great music and amazing activities all weekend long. Our 5:30 set will lead into an open session at 6:30. See the Niagara Celtic Festival website for more details.

    -- Also at the Niagara Celtic Festival that day, Rush the Growler will be hosting a class as part of the "Celtic College." In recognition of the centennial of the 1916 Easter Uprising, we will be hosting a class called, "The 1916 Rebellion in Song." All classes at the Celtic College are free to festival-goers, and meant to celebrate the history and heritage of the Celts.

The place to start is the corner of Main St. and Mechanic, where there will be maps and information. Sponsored by the Springville Center for the Arts

    Old Fort Niagara The 49th NY Re-enactors have invited us to play at the Civil War Garrison Weekend at Old Fort Niagara. We will be playing sometime on Saturday morning, exact time and location within the fort TBA.

    Clarence Historical Society The society is having a picnic before the program that all are welcome to. Pavilion doors open at 5:00; Dinner served at 6:00; Program begins at 7:15. Hot dogs, hamburgers, rolls & condiments provided by the Society. Lemonade, iced tea & water also. Please bring a dish to share. Location is the Clarence Town Park located at 10405 Main Street, next to the Clarence Historical Museum. We are in the large pavilion just past the Clubhouse.

    The 30th Annual 154th New York Vol. Infantry Descendants Reunion Our concert is part of a day of activities remembering the Civil War service of the 154th. We will be playing at a barbecue in the evening, and will be featuring songs and stories from our CD project, "A Song For Our Own: Songs By, For, and About the 154th New York Volunteer Infantry." The barbecue and concert will be in a tent outside the Magnano Center/Hickey Dining Hall at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, NY. The reunion itself is free and open to all interested, but the barbecue and concert will cost $30. For more information click here.

2014

  • Friday, February 21, 2014-
    The Great Guinness Toast at the Buffalo Irish Center at 245 Abbott Road in Buffalo. Many bands come out for this one and it's always a grand time, with two stages for the music and plenty of craic. The music starts at 7:00 PM and goes until 1:00 AM. Rush the Growler is currently scheduled to be on from 11:00 to 11:45 in the pub.
  • Saturday, March 22, 2014-
    "Brave and True, Always Such has Anson Been" We will be performing two songs for a memorial service for Private Anson Park. Park was a soldier in the 154th New York Volunteer Infantry back in the Civil War, and died in a hospital, 150 years ago that weekend. The songs that we will perform come from poems from the Park family. One was written by Anson's cousin Andrew Park, and the other was written about Anson on the occassion of his death. We have set the poems to period melodies and will be debuting the songs as part of the memorial service this day. The service begins at 11:00 AM and will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Wesley, NY, south of Gowanda. The church is located at NY Rte 353, just north of Markhams Road. Join us and many other local musicians on Saturday, May 17, when we fill the porches of the Elmwood District with a lot of live music.     The Cattaraugus County Museum- Rush the Growler is pleased to be performing a special set titled, "Music of the Civil War and the 154th New York Volunteer Infantry." Scott's great-great grandfather served in that regiment, and our selections tonight will include many songs by, for, and about the men of that unit. The Cattaraugus Museum is located at 9824 Route 16 in Machias, N.Y. Our program is set to begin at 7:00 and last for 90 minutes.
